Introduction to Buddhism

11 AM Sundays

Lama Karma and Lama Tsultar will teach on Mind Training as a part of the Losel Shedrup Ling short preliminary practice. These teachings instruct us on how to recognize habitual perceptions that cause suffering and how to apply antidotes that increase happiness, compassion and realization. Mind Training, or Lojong, is the quintessential teaching on the path of the awakened heart of great compassion, combining recognition of the ultimate nature of mind and the world with detailed practical advice on how to bring every aspect of our everyday lives onto the path.

Lama Karma completed two three-year, three-month retreats under Lama Norlha Rinpoche.  Lama Karma graduated from Columbia University with degrees in Literature and Religious Studies and brings nearly ten years of experience offer to students seeking to study the practices of the Tibetan Buddhist path, tailored to the Western mind and idiom.

Lama Tsultar (David Miller) became Buddhist in 1999 when he took the refuge vow from his root teacher Lama Norlha Rinpoche. In 2007, he completed the traditional three-year retreat at Kagyu Thubten Chöling Monastery in New York, earning the title of Lama. His main teachers include Lama Norlha Rinpoche, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje, Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, Lama Willa Miller and Anam Thubten.
