Introduction to Buddhism with Lama Tsultar

“Making Friends with Difficult Emotions: Turning Challenges into Allies”

Wednesdays 6:30 – 8:00 pm    Resumes January 2 and weekly thereafter

Teachings on taking adversity onto the path will be supported by instruction in the practice of tonglen, or “taking and sending,” which is a profound method of transforming the mind on the spot, whether on the cushion or in the middle of any daily activity.

Lama Tsultar (David Miller) became Buddhist in 1999 when he took the refuge vow from his root teacher Lama Norlha Rinpoche. In 2007, he completed the traditional three-year retreat at Kagyu Thubten Chöling Monastery in New York, earning the title of Lama. His main teachers include Lama Norlha Rinpoche, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje, Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, Lama Willa Miller and Anam Thubten.

His teachings emphasize traditional Tibetan Buddhist practices applied to modern life and contemporary times. Specialties range from pure view, developing compassion through the practice of Lojong, devotion, and resting the mind in the natural state. Along with this is a strong emphasis on the integration and application of dharma practice in our lives through direct service to others.
